Drummer Daniel Nydick began playing music at age 10. When his school’s band director visited his fifth grade classroom to recruit new members, Daniel heard the words snare drum and something immediately clicked.
The following year, he bought his first drum kit for $50 from his father’s friend George. That the kit comprised ten mismatched drums of various brands and an array of “garbage can lid” cymbals made no difference to him. When George set everything up and jammed along to “Detroit Rock City,” Daniel’s jaw dropped. It was at that moment that he knew he had been awakened to his lifelong passion.
At 15 Daniel joined his first gigging band, Toxic Guerrilla. This was followed at 17 by Malicious Intent, with whom he recorded and enjoyed local radio airplay. Both acts performed regularly in the New York City area, including shows at the famed CBGB. He played with several other bands, such as Grand Theft and Envayne, before joining Orpheus Nine in the summer of 2005. Daniel was also a member of the progressive metal band Powers Court.
Among Daniel’s drumming influences are Mike Portnoy, John Bonham, Keith Moon, Mikkey Dee, Phil Varone, Ingo Schwichtenberg, Gavin Harrison, and Travis Barker.
